Bus from Suzdal to Ivanovo: Schedule and Tickets

Ivanovo lies 90 kilometres north of Suzdal, reached by regional road R152 through the rural town of Gavrilov Posad. A suburban bus runs the route in 90 minutes to two hours, with a typical four or five services per day in season and slightly fewer in winter. The road skirts golden wheat fields and a handful of villages whose church silhouettes have changed little since the 18th century. This is the standard onward leg if you are working clockwise round the Golden Ring after Vladimir and Suzdal, with Plyos and Kostroma next. Fares run 300-550 roubles.

What to expect on board

This is a plain suburban (prigorodny) coach — PAZ or LiAZ vehicle with upright commuter seating, high floor and no on-board toilet. Overhead luggage racks accommodate small bags; larger suitcases ride in the underfloor hold at no extra charge. The route makes ten or twelve stops along the way; the driver announces them aloud in Russian. No catering, no Wi-Fi, no air conditioning on the older buses — bring water in summer.

Where to board in Suzdal

Suzdal Bus Station is on Vasiliyevskaya Street, on the eastern edge of the historic core. The Ivanovo departures use the right-hand bay of the small terminal; the ticket window inside the station building sells tickets in cash for 300 roubles or so, depending on the day. Boarding is first come first served; arrive 15 minutes before departure to claim a window seat. The departures board lists "Иваново" in Cyrillic — screenshot the word in advance if you cannot read the script.

Where you arrive in Ivanovo

Ivanovo Bus Station is on Lezhnevskaya Street, just south of the railway station and a 15-minute walk from the city's Constructivist core. The most photographed building — the House-Ship, a 1930 apartment block shaped like an ocean liner — is a 10-minute walk west of the bus station. The textile museum and the Burylin Museum are in the same district. Buses 4 and 14 connect the terminal to the modern shopping core.

Best time of day to travel

Morning departures (08:00-10:30) are the safest bet: they line up with afternoon arrivals in Ivanovo and leave the rest of the day for the Constructivist walk and the textile museum. The last evening service from Suzdal departs around 17:30-18:00 in summer and 16:30 in winter; check the printed schedule on the station wall before relying on a later return. Sundays have a slightly reduced schedule — confirm in advance.

Booking tips

This is mostly a pay-on-board or buy-at-window suburban route — online booking through Russian aggregators is patchy. Cash in roubles is the most reliable payment method; some on-board terminals accept Russian Mir cards. Bring small bills. For the limited services that are bookable online, Mir cards, SBP transfers and Russian-issued Visa/Mastercard issued before 2022 work; foreign cards generally fail.
