Bus from Moscow to Ivanovo: Schedule and Tickets

Ivanovo lies 290 kilometres north-east of Moscow, off the M7 highway via Vladimir and Suzdal, then north on regional road A113. Direct interregional coaches cover the distance in five to six hours including a comfort stop near Pokrov or Petushki. Founded as a Soviet-era textile centre and known as the "City of Brides" for its wartime gender imbalance, Ivanovo today is an unexpected magnet for architecture enthusiasts: the 1920s Constructivist experiment left a handful of remarkable buildings that survive nowhere else in such density. Fares run 900-1500 roubles.

What to expect on board

Coaches on the Ivanovo line are standard interregional buses with reclining seats, air conditioning, USB charging and an overhead luggage rack. Larger suitcases ride in the underfloor hold at no extra charge for items under 30 kg. One comfort stop is scheduled about halfway, near Pokrov. There is no on-board catering but the rest stop has kiosks and a cafeteria. All announcements are in Russian; the driver is helpful if you flag your stop in advance.

Where to board in Moscow

Most Ivanovo coaches depart from Shchyolkovsky bus terminal (Shchelkovskoye Shosse, 75), directly attached to Shchyolkovskaya metro station on the dark-blue line (line 3). The terminal handles all M7-corridor traffic to Vladimir, Suzdal, Ivanovo and beyond. Exit the metro platforms, follow the signs for "Avtovokzal", and you reach the terminal entrance in 30 seconds under cover. Some early-morning departures use the smaller Orekhovo station on the green line.

Where you arrive in Ivanovo

Ivanovo Bus Station is on Lezhnevskaya Street, just south of the railway station and a 15-minute walk from the city's Constructivist core. The most photographed building — the House-Ship, a 1930 apartment block shaped like an ocean liner — is a 10-minute walk west of the bus station. The textile museum is in the same district. Buses 4 and 14 connect the terminal to the modern shopping core on Engels Street.

Best time of day to travel

Morning departures (06:30-08:30) put you in Ivanovo by mid-afternoon — perfect for a long architectural walk before sunset. Late-evening services give you a next-day start but the trip is uncomfortable on a daytime schedule once tiredness sets in. Avoid Friday late afternoon out of Moscow — the M7 dacha traffic adds an hour to the Balashikha-Noginsk segment. The return slot from Ivanovo to Moscow on Sunday is usually packed; book ahead.

Booking tips

Online booking through a Russian aggregator works well — Ivanovo is busy enough for daily services but not so busy that you risk sold-out coaches on a weekday. Book three to five days ahead. Mir cards, SBP transfers and Russian-issued Visa/Mastercard issued before 2022 are accepted; foreign cards generally fail. The QR code on your phone is enough at boarding — no printed ticket needed.
