Golden Ring in 3 days: a sample itinerary by bus

Editorial itinerary · 6 min read

Three days is enough to sample the Golden Ring without rushing — Suzdal for the wooden churches, Vladimir for the medieval stone capital, Yaroslavl for the Volga embankment. The whole loop runs Friday morning out, Sunday evening back, and stays under 4,000 ₽ in transport at 2026 prices.

Day 1 — Moscow to Suzdal

Take the 09:00 or 11:00 bus from Schyolkovsky bus terminal in Moscow direct to Suzdal. Travel time 4–5 hours. Arrive in time for a late lunch on the Trade Square and a slow afternoon walk along Lenina street to the Cathedral of the Nativity and the Saviour Monastery of St Euthymius. Sleep in a guesthouse (гостевой дом) for an authentic Russian provincial-town night.

Day 2 — Suzdal to Vladimir to Yaroslavl

Morning: take the 35-minute local minibus from Suzdal to Vladimir (200 ₽). 3 hours in Vladimir is enough for the Cathedral of the Dormition, the Golden Gate and the Patriarchal Garden. Afternoon: from Vladimir take the express coach to Yaroslavl (4 hours, ~1,400 ₽). Evening arrival, stroll the Volga embankment to the Strelka (the wedge where the Kotorosl meets the Volga). Sleep in a hotel near the Volga.

Day 3 — Yaroslavl and return to Moscow

Morning: the Yaroslavl Kremlin (technically a Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery), the Museum of the City and the Volkov Theatre square. Afternoon: a ferry trip across the Volga to the residential Zavolzhsky district for a quiet riverside hour. Evening: 15:00 or 17:00 bus back to Moscow Schyolkovsky, arriving around 21:00 or 23:00.

Total budget (per person, summer 2026)

Total: 14,000–20,000 ₽ (~150–220 USD at 2026 exchange rates). Single travellers add roughly 30% for solo hotel pricing.
