Bus from Moscow to Vladimir: Schedule and Tickets
Vladimir lies 190 kilometres east of Moscow along the M7 "Volga" federal highway, a straight three-to-four-hour run for an intercity coach in normal traffic. The route is one of the most frequently served corridors out of the capital and is the single most useful coach connection on the Golden Ring: Vladimir is the gateway to Suzdal, Bogolyubovo and the Cathedral of the Intercession on the Nerl. Typical one-way fares sit between 450 and 850 roubles, with weekday off-peak departures at the lower end and Friday evening or Sunday afternoon services at the top.
What to expect on board
Coaches on the Moscow-Vladimir line are modern interregional buses — Higer, MAZ or imported Setra/Neoplan tourist vehicles on the busiest slots. Reclining seats, air conditioning, USB charging in the newer fleets and an overhead luggage rack are standard. Larger suitcases ride in the underfloor hold at no extra charge for items under 30 kg. Most services include a short comfort stop near Pokrov or Petushki at the halfway point. No on-board catering, but the rest stops have kiosks for coffee, pies and bottled water. All announcements are in Russian.
Where to board in Moscow
The two main departure points are Shchyolkovsky bus terminal (Shchelkovskoye Shosse, 75) and Avtostantsiya Orekhovo. Shchyolkovsky is the largest interregional terminal in Moscow and is directly attached to Shchyolkovskaya metro station on the dark-blue line (line 3) — exit the platforms, follow the "Avtovokzal" signs, and the terminal doors are 30 seconds away under cover. Orekhovo on the green line (line 2) is more convenient for southern Moscow accommodation: walk from the metro turnstiles directly into the small terminal forecourt.
Where you arrive in Vladimir
Vladimir bus station (Avtovokzal) sits next to the railway station on Vokzalnaya Street, on the northern edge of the historic centre. From the platforms a 10-15 minute uphill walk along Bolshaya Moskovskaya Street brings you to the Golden Gate (1158-1164) and on to Assumption Cathedral, the masterpiece of pre-Mongol Russian architecture overlooking the Klyazma river. Suzdal-bound suburban buses depart from the same terminal — platforms 1-3 on the right of the building — every 30 to 60 minutes throughout the day.
Best time of day to travel
Morning departures between 06:30 and 09:00 are the most reliable: they clear the Balashikha-Noginsk bottleneck on the Gorky corridor before peak congestion and deliver you to Vladimir well before lunch. Friday evening services (16:00-21:00) can run 60-90 minutes late thanks to dacha traffic out of Moscow. For a Sunday return, leave before 14:00 or after 22:00 — the late-afternoon slot back into Moscow is the worst in the schedule.
Booking tips
Tickets are sold online through Russian aggregator partners and at the Shchyolkovsky / Orekhovo ticket windows. Book a day or two ahead during weekdays and a week ahead for Friday evening and Sunday slots; long weekends and holidays (May, January, Maslenitsa) need a fortnight's lead time. Mir cards, SBP transfers and Russian-issued Visa/Mastercard work; foreign-issued cards generally do not. Boarding requires the QR code on your phone — no printed paper needed.
